BOUNCE & TOUCH - HOME PAGE

SUMMARY of Bounce & Touch to print off

Bounce & Touch combines two Dog-Games - "Bounce" and "Touch" - so that the dog jumps over four 8 inch/20cm jumps, runs up and touches the target box on the 51ft/15.3m mark, then returns over the four jumps and runs through the finish poles to the handler for its motivator.

The handler learns -

  • To bring all their experience of training their dog to do the previous Games, and use this knowledge to help it understand how to do a sendaway to the target box and jump the hurdles at the same time.
  • That dogs can become so focused on the target box and do such a wide turn from it that they need help from their handlers to realise that the hurdles need to be jumped as the dog returns. This is done by careful attention to the handler's movements and their judgment of the dog's speed and direction.

The dog learns -

  • Once it has touched the marker on the target box, to adjust and correct its turning curve and eyesight so that it can run back over the four hurdles without missing any and return to the handler.

ROLL OF HONOUR

The training is broken down in to 5 separate Stages - Starters, Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum -, which are non-competitive and have no restrictions on the speed of the dog. Every Stage has certificates, rosettes, and at Platinum a trophy, which are given in recognition of the achievements of both dog and handler.

Always begin training at Starters and progress from there. It is not compulsory for dogs to do all these Stages - they have been provided so that each dog can train to its own ability. Dogs must not be pushed into situations that they cannot cope with (eg running too close to other dogs in Silver) and handlers and trainers must respect the dog's limitations. Some dogs and handlers work steadily through most or all of the Stages of Bounce & Touch before trying a new Game, while others reach Bronze or Silver Stages of this Game and then try another Game (returning to the higher Stages of Bounce & Touch when the dog is more confident, experienced or older).
