EVERYDAY OCCURRENCE
(Part of the Memory flow chart of the DOG-GAMES website)
When the dog's brain assesses the Event and finds it neither threatening nor rewarding enough to warrant it being stored in its long-term or short-term memory, the brain will regard the information as being trivial and will forget it.
However, if the dog assesses the information as being "boring" and tedious, it may make an environmental photo of the Event and store it in its long-term memory. If the dog matches the "photo" with any event that happens in the future it may decide to "switch off" and not be interested in what is happening around it.
Lodgers often have a number of boring "photos" stored in their long-term memories and and this is why they become very withdrawn and introverted with the humans and dogs around them.
