MEMBER'S GENERAL QUESTION -
TYPES OF HARNESS
| I have been looking on your website shop for a harness and I am now a little confused as you do a few different types. The reason I have gone for a harness is that I have read that it stops the dog pulling. If this is so, do different harnesses make a difference and if so which harness would you recommend? |
|
Yes we do sell a variety of different harnesses. This is because there are so many different shapes of dogs around and not all shapes of dogs suit one particular design. It is not entirely true that harnesses stop a dog pulling (that is like the "holy grail" in the pet trade!!). What they do do is to change the dog's centre of gravity and take away the unpleasant pressure from the collar digging into the dog's neck. Some dogs feel so free and unconstricted when on a harness that they feel as though they are walking off-lead. Others may still pull but their adrenaline is not so high (as there is no pain in the neck) so they are calmer and less headstrong. For a full explanation about why dogs pull I suggest that you either read Turid's book "What do I do when my dog pulls?" from the book section of my shop, or you subscribe to my extensive web site and read all about harnesses, why dogs pull and how stress effects a dog and makes them pull on their lead. See also the Member's Question about using walking harnesses as a car harness as well. |
