A quick guide to your dogs chewing needs

Chewing is a natural behaviour in dogs of all ages. Chewing helps reduce stress in dogs, and can also control barking, digging and other destructive behaviour (see Stress Solutions for more details). The key to embracing your dog's natural need to chew is to offer appropriate chew objects to help satisfy and relieve chewing urges, so that it will no longer feel the need to destroy your furniture, carpets, footwear, etc.

Your PUPPY is chewing to relieve tension, soothe new gums and help loosen puppy teeth to make room for adult teeth.

Your ADULT DOG is developing and maintaining strong jaw muscles and often chews when alone or bored.

Your SENIOR DOG is at an age when dental disease develops, potentially resulting in tooth loss.

PLEASE NOTE - We have given each chew item a "Chew Scale" number. Low numbered items are only suitable for small dogs or those who are not destructive chewers - while the higher numbers are more sturdier and robust.
