It is part of a dog's
natural instincts to chase and kill small animals - after all these furry creatures are their natural prey and source of nutrients if they were not provided with food by us humans.
For obvious reasons we cannot provide our dogs with an endless supply of furry creatures to chase and kill (!) so I have been looking around for some time for a suitable alternative which can be used as a lure to drag along behind the human and entice the dog back to them using their hunting instincts.
Please welcome the Critters!
These furry toys fulfil all the
visual, textural, and sound senses that
trigger a dog to chase prey - sadly we cannot provide the taste and smell of the prey, but rubbing the juices from tinned fish may be a very tasty alternative if you want to trigger these senses as well!!
Touch & SightThe Critters are made from good quality fake-fur and the "body" of the toy is made up of a hard wearing ball which floats in water. This ball makes the Critter bounce around erratically as the toy is dragged along on the ground, using a long line or a lead which can be attached to the Critter on a strong webbing loop that we have had especially sewn using an industrial sewing machine.
SoundThe soft hairy tail of the Critter has a squeaker inside to mimic the sound of a small animal being killed - this really adds authenticity to the lure.
Critters are available in two sizes and four styles -
- Little Critters - Squirrel, Shaggy, Fox and Skunk (Ball approx. 2"; Overall length approx. 6")
- Large Critters - Squirrel, Fox, and Skunk (Ball approx. 3"; Overall length approx. 9")
