FLEECE TOYS - GRABBITS, RAGGITS, KILLER RINGS

Killer rings are still being made
by DOG GAMES Ltd
Raggits and Grabbits are no longer manufactured

THESE ARE TRAINING AIDS AND NOT  CHEW TOYS
****  THEY ARE NOT INDESTRUCTIBLE!  ****
DOGS SHOULD NOT BE LEFT UNATTENDED WITH THESE TOYS

Please note that these are TOYS for dogs. Leads have been made from fleecy materials and owners play tugger with these fleecy leads. The owners have taught their dogs to play with and bite any lead (environmental photo) that is used with the possible consequences of biting through these leads which may be expensive but should also raise concerns about safety with the dog not being under control on a lead.

Dog Games has never made these products and would not encourage their use as described above.

Grabbits

  • The two different sizes (small, large) of Grabbits are made especially for DOG GAMES and over the years have proven to be very hard wearing, if used correctly.

  • The high quality fleece is machine washable and can be tumble dried at low temperatures.

  • Our fleece toys unique stretchiness prevents either the dog or handler being jerked or injured when playing tuggy games together. Ordinary rope tug toys cause dogs' pain thresholds to rise as their excitement levels rise - it is only later on, when the dog is resting, that it realises it has pulled muscles or jarred its skeleton!

  • The variations of colour (or shades of 'grey' as dogs do not see colours as we humans do) make the movement of the Grabbit (or Raggit or Killer ring) visually stimulating for dogs to grab hold of and tug. All our fleece toys come in a variety of different colours, many of which are changed on a regular basis. (see webshop, fleece toys).

  • The soft texture of the fleece fabric is very appealing to many dogs, and they enjoy mouthing, chewing and gripping it with their teeth. This need to hold objects between their teeth is caused by a build up of tension in their jaw muscles when they are over excited. They release the tension into the toy and thus release the build up of adrenaline. However, it must be noted that too long a time playing tugging games can also build up excitement levels, so it is up to the handler to maintain a happy medium when playing with this toy.

  • It is recommended that these fleece toys are only used when handlers want to play and interact with their dogs (see Motivators for more information about training dogs using positive reinforcement).

Grabbits are very similar to another of our fleece motivator toys - Raggits - but have a handle plaited into them so that they can be -
  • held more firmly
  • looped over a hand or arm while training the dog
  • attached to the handle of a lead so that the dog can get rid of the tension in its jaws if it becomes over excited or worried

RAGGITS

  • Raggits are made from four strips of high quality, machine washable, fleece fabric which can also be tumble dried at low temperstures.

  • They come in a wide variety of colour combinations and two different sizes, small and large.

  • Raggits are ideal motivators for dogs that love to chase, kill and play tugger. Also, they may not be interested in balls or balls on rope toys. They may find this toy comforting if they have a soft mouth.

  • Raggits have been specifically designed by Dog-Games to fulfill various instincts in dogs.

  • The variations of colour (or shades of "grey", as dogs do not see colours as humans do) make the movement of the Raggit visually stimulating for dogs to chase.  Small sudden jerky movements of the end of the Raggit as it erratically moves along the ground are very enticing to dogs and stimulate their desire to chase and kill.

  • The soft texture of the fleece fabric is very appealing to many dogs, which enjoy chewing and gripping it with their teeth. This need to hold objects between their teeth is caused by a build up of tension in their jaw muscles when they are over excited. They release the tension into the Raggit and thus release the build up of adrenaline. However, it must be noted that too long a time playing tugging games can also build up excitement levels, so it is up to the handler to maintain a happy medium when playing with this toy.

  • It is recommended that Raggits are only used when handlers want to play and interact with their dogs (ie using them as motivators when training) and dogs should NOT be left alone with them - they are very chewable!

  • Dogs also enjoy the benefits of the stretchy springiness of the Raggit, enabling them to pull as hard as they like without jarring their bones or muscles, no matter what the handler is doing at the other end!  Dogs that love playing tugger games love Raggits!

  • The erratically jerky movement of the raggedly cut end imitates the sudden movement of prey.  By keeping the end of the Raggit on the ground the dog is able to focus on it and is less likely to be influenced by the handler's distracting body movements.  Be careful not to move the Raggit too much that the dog is unable to even get near the end and becomes frustrated and gives up playing the game - it is not a battle between handler and dog, allow the dog to get it!

  • The LARGE RAGGIT is ideal for dragging along the ground (bumping along in a random bouncy fashion) for the dog to chase and "kill".  The handler can easily "catch" their dog by its harness, as the dog is intent on playing with the Raggit while they are holding the other end.

  • The SHORT RAGGIT is half the length of a long one and is therefore easier to put in your pocket and hide.

KILLER RINGS

  • "Killers" are made from a central ring with many coloured pieces of fleece tied to this ring. The strips are of high quality, machine washable, fleece fabric which can also be tumble dried.
  • Killers are ideal motivators for dogs that love to chase, kill and play tugger and are not interested in balls or balls on rope toys, or have soft mouths.

  • They have been specifically designed by Dog-Games to fulfill various instincts in dogs.
  • The variations of colour (or shades of "grey", as dogs do not see colours as humans do) make the movement of the Killer visually stimulating for dogs to chase.  Small sudden jerky, erratic movements of this Killer in the handler's hand is very enticing to dogs and stimulates their interest and then their desire to chase and kill.
  • What has mum got in her hand? The erratic movement looks like a bird in distress and the dog comes over to investigate.
  • The soft texture of the fleece fabric is very appealing to many dogs, which enjoy chewing and gripping it with their teeth. This need to hold objects between their teeth is caused by a build up of tension in their jaw muscles when they are over excited. They release the tension into the Killer and thus release the build up of adrenaline. However, it must be noted that too long a time playing tugging games can also build up excitement levels, so it is up to the handler to maintain a happy medium when playing with this toy.

  • It is recommended that Killers are only used when handlers want to play and interact with their dogs (ie using them as motivators when training) and dogs should NOT be left alone with them - they are very chewable!

  • Dogs also enjoy the benefits of the stretchy springiness of the Killer, enabling them to pull as hard as they like without jarring their bones or muscles, no matter what the handler is doing at the other end!
